Welcome Message: Melbourne City Mission

In 2017, Melbourne City Mission’s FRMP State-wide Conference will join forces with the Council to Homeless Persons Victorian Conference “Talking Solutions” (13 & 14 September, Melbourne Town Hall).

Melbourne City Mission’s FRMP component will be delivered as the Conference’s Specialist Youth Homelessness Stream.

This Specialist Youth Homelessness Stream will connect frontline workers and practice leaders with leading researchers, to drive better outcomes for vulnerable young people.

With 42% of all those experiencing homelessness in Australia under the age of 25, the average age of our clients is 19. And across Melbourne City Mission’s homelessness division we have contact with approximately 3,000 young people each year, with 11,000 face to face contacts.

We also know that domestic and family violence is a leading cause of homelessness.

It is thus more important than ever to come together to share ideas and practices and build the strength of our community and organisational practice. The Youth Practitioners Stream provides a platform to share knowledge and expertise on best practice, and to unpack the big issues in early intervention and family-centred practice.

I welcome this opportunity and look forward to seeing you all there.

Vicki Sutton

CEO, Melbourne City Mission
